Are Professional Hair Products Really Worth the Money?
“Are you only telling me to buy this because you work here?”
Fair question.
But if I just spent three hours making your hair look amazing, I’m also going to tell you how to keep it looking that way at home.
And here’s the funny part: I wasn’t always the stylist who recommended professional products.
I Used to Think Product Was Product
For years, I honestly didn’t recommend professional hair products very often.
I hated feeling like I was “selling” something.
I Want to Change My Hair, But I Don’t Know What I Want
“I want something different. I just don’t know what.”
Believe it or not, that’s actually a great place to start.
You don’t need to walk into the salon knowing the name of a haircut, the exact shade of brunette you want, or carrying 14 perfectly coordinated inspiration photos.
Sometimes you just know you’re bored. Nothing is necessarily wrong with your hair. It just doesn’t excite you anymore.
And that’s enough.
Because the Right Hair Changes More Than Your Reflection
There is something about hair.
It can be deeply personal and completely frivolous—sometimes at the exact same time.
We cut it after breakups. Grow it out when we're ready for something different. Cover the gray. Embrace the gray. Go blonde. Go back to brunette. Get bangs and occasionally regret the bangs.
We bring inspiration photos. We say, “I don't know what I want, but I need a change.” We sit in the chair after a terrible week and somehow feel a little more like ourselves when we get back up.
Because hair has never been just hair.
At THE LOFT, we see that every day.

Behind the Chair as an Introvert: Finding My Place in a Very Social Industry
I've been behind the chair for four years, and in that time I've learned a lot about hair.
I've also learned a lot about myself.
I'm naturally more introverted. I've never been someone who feels the need to fill every silence or keep a conversation going simply because the room gets quiet.
When I became a hairstylist, I sometimes wondered if that would work against me.
